Product Overview

Currently, the neutral point of power supplies in China’s distribution systems is generally not directly grounded; therefore, when a single-phase-to-ground fault occurs on a line, the current flowing through the fault point is actually the capacitive current generated by the line-to-ground capacitance.

According to statistics, a significant proportion of distribution network faults are caused by the inability of single-phase-to-ground faults to self-extinguish due to excessive capacitive current. Therefore, China’s power engineering codes stipulate that when the capacitive current in 10 kV and 35 kV systems exceeds 30 A and 10 A, respectively, arc-suppression coils shall be installed to compensate for the capacitive current, which necessitates measuring the distribution network’s capacitive current in order to make this determination.

In addition, the coordination between the distribution network’s ground capacitance and the PT parameters can give rise to ferroresonance overvoltages in the PT. To verify whether PT resonance will occur in this distribution system and to determine the nature of such resonance, it is essential to accurately measure the distribution network’s ground capacitance.

Traditional methods for measuring the capacitive current of distribution networks include the direct method using single-phase metallic grounding and the indirect method employing an external capacitor. However, both approaches require direct contact with primary equipment, which poses safety risks, involves cumbersome procedures, and results in low operational efficiency.

The HK-500P fully automatic capacitive current tester directly measures the capacitive current of distribution networks from the secondary side of the potential transformer. Compared with traditional testing methods, this instrument eliminates the need to interface with the primary side, thereby eliminating associated testing hazards and obviating the need for cumbersome safety measures and lengthy dispatch instructions. To obtain capacitive current measurements, simply connect the test leads to the open-delta terminal of the potential transformer.

Since a weak, heterofrequency test signal is injected at the open-delta terminal of the PT, it neither affects the relay protection system nor the PT itself, while effectively avoiding 50-Hz power-frequency interference. Moreover, the instrument’s output can withstand an AC voltage of 100 V; thus, even if a single-phase-to-ground fault occurs in the system during measurement, neither the PT nor the testing instrument will be damaged. Consequently, no special safety precautions are required, making the procedure safe, simple, and rapid, with test results that are accurate, stable, and reliable.

This tester features a large LCD display, a Chinese-language menu, and an extremely user-friendly interface. Its compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry for field operations. Wiring is straightforward, testing is rapid, and data accuracy is high, significantly reducing the workload of test personnel and enhancing operational efficiency.
