Reactive power compensation capacitors are critical equipment for maintaining reactive power balance in power systems. In recent years, reactive power issues have received widespread attention from power utilities, and complete sets of reactive power compensation equipment have been extensively deployed in distribution networks. Power supply requires real-time active and reactive power balance within the system; therefore, reactive power compensation devices must be capable of automatic tracking and real-time compensation, which inevitably entails frequent switching operations of capacitor banks. Such switching operations can generate overcurrent and overvoltage surges, leading to capacitor damage. To ensure equipment reliability, promptly detect capacitor defects, and prevent fault escalation, regular inspections are essential. However, on-site capacitors are typically connected in parallel groups, and the conventional approach involves disconnecting the capacitor busbars before using traditional capacitance meters for measurement. Given that a capacitor bank consists of dozens to hundreds of individual capacitors, this method entails a substantial workload for disconnection and capacitance measurement. Moreover, frequent disconnections can strip screw threads or result in loose connections, creating safety hazards and increasing the risk of secondary damage to the capacitors. Consequently, there is a strong demand for a testing instrument that can measure the capacitance of each individual capacitor without requiring wire disconnection, thereby reducing the burden on maintenance personnel, enhancing the efficiency of maintenance operations, and improving the safety of distribution network operation.

In response to the actual conditions on site, our company conducted intensive research and development and ultimately designed an instrument that employs a novel testing method for measurement. This instrument enables the measurement of individual capacitors within a bank of shunt capacitors without disconnecting the wiring, utilizing advanced measurement principles and four-terminal measurement techniques. It delivers precise measurements with excellent repeatability and complies with the national standard SJ-255-10300 for capacitance meters. In addition, it can measure the inductance of various reactors. The instrument features convenient wiring and simple operation, thereby reducing the workload of maintenance personnel, significantly enhancing on-site testing efficiency, and providing a reliable safeguard for the normal operation of the power grid.

Product Features

1. This instrument can measure the individual capacitance of grouped shunt capacitors without disconnecting the leads (capacitance measurements can be performed for both single-phase and three-phase capacitors). In addition, it can measure the inductance of various reactors, thereby meeting a wide range of field application requirements. For three-phase capacitor measurements, connect the leads according to the wiring diagram based on the connection configuration of the capacitor bank; the instrument’s built-in automatic phase-switching function eliminates the need for tedious manual lead reconnection and short-circuit operations, and the test results are automatically displayed upon completion.

2. During measurement, this instrument displays not only the measured capacitance or inductance value but also voltage, current, power, frequency, impedance, phase angle, and other parameters, facilitating a more comprehensive analysis of the test specimen’s condition.

3. The instrument features an 8.0-inch 800×600 graphical dot-matrix DGUS display with a K600+ processor and 65K colors, supporting touch operation for clear visibility both during the day and at night. It includes Chinese-language menu prompts for simple and intuitive operation.

4. The instrument is equipped with a large-capacity non-volatile memory that can store 200 sets of measurement data.

The instrument is equipped with a USB flash drive interface, allowing it to store measurement data from any set (subject to the capacity of the USB flash drive).
